Objectives Of Diet
To provide academic and resource support at the grass roots level for the success of the various strategies and programmes being undertaken in the areas of Elementary and Adult Education, with special reference to the following objectives.
Universalitation of primary/elementary education.
NLM targets in regard to functional literacy in the 15-35 age group.
1. To make primary education all extensive at the District level.
2. To undertake action research to improve the quality of primary Education.
3. To provide training to primary school Head Masters, teachers.
4. Conductors of adult education centre, observers and, main volunteers of Anganwadis and Balwadis.
5. To organize various training programmes for primary school teachers and to prepare self made educational tools.
6. To provide training to C.R.C. and B.R.C. co-coordinators belonging to the district.
7. To arrange for progressive development of B.R.C. and C.R.C.
Functions of branches
Training and orientation of following target group: elementary school teacher . (both pre-service and in-service education) .
Head masters, Heads of complexes and officers of education department up to block level.
Instructors and supervisors of non-formal and adult education.
Members of DBE (district board of education) and Villages education committees (VECS), community leaders, youth and other volunteers who wish to work as educational activities.
Resource persons who will conduct suitable programme for the target groups.
Academic and resource support to the elementary and adult education systems in the district in other ways, e.g by
extension activities and interaction with the field
p rovision of services of a resource and learning center for teachers and instructions
development of locally relevant materials teaching aids, evaluation tools etc.
serving as an evaluation center for elementary schools and programmes of NFE/ AE.

District Resource Unit
To assist educational authorities in planning and co ordination of training programmes for AE/NFE personal throughout the district.
And provide necessary support to such programmes organized outside the dist.
To serve as the nodal branch for Porganizing.Programmes of induction and supervisors/prerakes NFE/AE/NLM to be organized.
To evaluate and monitor the quality and efficacy of training programmes for NFE/AE personnel held in and outside the DIET and to strive for their continuous improvement.
To maintain data- base on all NFE/AE personnel who undergo training at the institute , and to organize follow up activities pursuant to such training
To undertake with the help of other concerned branches , the following activities vis-à-vis curriculum ,basis and post literacy teaching-learning material, low cost teaching and evaluation tools for NFE/AE :
(i) adaptation of existing curricular units, teaching learning materials etc.
(ii)development of new locally relevant items including in widely spoken dialects of the distt.
To undertake action research in all areas relevant for making NFE/AE more effective in collaboration with other branches
To provide AE/NFE related inputs into all programmes for teachers
ET -Educational Technology
To develop collaboration with concerned staff of the diet and other resource persons, simple ,effective and low cost teaching aids for various subjects/areas related to elementary education and elementary teacher education . charts, diagrams, models, photographs, slides, audio tapes, play-scripts, songs etc.
To help the DRU in developing low cost teaching aids as above ,for adult and non formal education.
To maintain the:
(i) all A.V equipments of the institute
(ii) computer lab
(iii) A display area for good, low cost teaching aids developed in house as well as else where, and
(iv) A library of educational video/audio cassettes and if the institute has a film projector of films
To lend slides ,cassettes and films to institutions having planning / projection facilities and to borrow them from other resource centers.
To lease nearly radio station for arranging educational broadcasts suitable for elementary school children AE/NFE learners, teachers/instructors etc.
To conduct appropriate in-service programmes for teachers in the area of ET, with special emphasis on
(i) effective utilization of educational broadcasts ,telecasts ,cassettes and aids
(ii) development of simple ,low cost teaching aids.
In-service Program Field Interaction,Innovation & Co-ordination
To assist educational authorities in planning and coordination of in-service education programmes for elementary teachers through the district, and to plan and coordinate such programmes held in the DIET ,pursuant to this , the branch held.
(i) identify training needs of elementary teachers in the district ,and prepare a perspective plan for meeting such needs
(ii) prepare-An annual calendar of all programmes to be held in the DIET; and
(iii) help concerned authorities in preparing an annual calendar of in-service programmes to be held outside the DIET.
To serve as the nodal branch for organizing
(i) all those in service education programmes for teachers and head masters , at the institute whose contact does not relate exclusively or pre-dominantly to any one branch.
(ii) orientation programmes for resource persons who would conduct in service programmes for teachers at other centers in the district.
To evaluate and monitor the quality and efficacy of in service programmes held in and out side the DIET
To maintain a data base on all persons, except NFE /AE personnel ,who undergo training at the institute, and to organize follow-up activities pursuant to such training, through correspondence ,visits, transmission of printed materials etc.
To serve as a reference and resource centers for teachers who to continue education.
To act as the nodal branch for all action research and field interaction activities of the institute which would include
(i) coordinating of in house action research activities and dissemination of its results.
(ii) Acting as a clearing house for information on results of all studies ,research ,innovation ,etc in the area of elementary education where ever undertaken.
(iii) publication of a periodic news letter and an institute journal to be sent to every elementary school/NFE/AE center in the district.
P&M - Planning and Management
To maintain an appropriate data base for the district which may be required for various planning exercises aimed at the UPE/UEE/NLM goals and for monitoring progress towards the goals.
To conduct studies with a view to giving policy advise to educational planners/Administrators /DBE regarding UEE/NLM some of the important areas for such studies would be
(i)enrolment, retention,and regularity of attendence of children and adult learners
(ii) communities perceptions of and participation in the process of basic education
(iii) dervelopment of norms criteria and techniques for evaluation of institutions of the district .
To provide technical assistant to educationals authority in
(i) school maping
(ii)micro planning for UPE/AUEE in an areas specific and target group apecific manners
(iii) formation and activation of school complexes, school etc.
To serve as the nodal branch in relation to all programmes of community involvement in basic education .
To conduct appropriate programmes for head masters ,heads of school complexes and block leval educationl functionaries in PM coverin g areas live leadership motivation involving the communities educational administration finance and accounting office procedure planning for UPE/UEE institutional planning etc.
To appriase efficacy of various programmes of educational development implimented in the district especially vis-à-vis the objecyive of UPE/UEE and NLM .
To acts as the nodal branch for preparing quin - aquennial and annual institutionals planns and annual self evaluation reports for the DIET and for liasing with the DBE
To provide PM related inputs into all other programmes/activities of the institute eg . pre-service and in-service programmes for teachers ,training programmes for NFE/AE personnel ,field interaction.

This compact city spread in the area of 108 sq kms. is inhabited by 1.5 million people. it is aptly called, very often, Sayajinagari named after H.E.Maharaja sayajirao III in the name of baroda collage.
It later on got the status of the residential university in 1949.
It was the capital of one of the most powerful princely state prior to independence and is a pleasant, medium sized city with some interesting museums and art galleries and a fine park. It is also known as the city of Arches, Domes, Colourful Gardens Fountains, Supreme Education and ever increasing Industries.
W.E - Work Experience
To identify locally relevant WE areas, and in co operation with concern nodal branches to develop sample curricular units, teaching learning material, low cost teaching aids and evaluation tools techniques in such areas.
To organize activities for cleanliness, upkeep and development of the institute campus rids, play grounds, lawns, gardens, etc and its surroundings and for basic maintenance of institute furniture and other properties
To organize community service activities and study visits to work centers ass part of training programmes and to promote such activities on extra curricular basis.
To maintain T.L.M. room, workshop/farm/Garden for activities.
To promote work related hobbies among trainees of the institu.
P.S.T.E - Pre-Service Teacher Education
Organizing pre-service course for elementary school teachers and to provide academic inputs into such course is the subjects represented in the branch.
Propagation of learner centered education and education for personality development through training, preparation of suitable teaching aids action research.
All general matters concerning teaching methodology and specific matters concerning teaching methodology.
Provision of psychological counseling and guidance services to school and NFE/AE centers of the district.
All matters relating to learning by children of disadvantaged groups.
Education of children with major handicaps and other mild handicaps.
To conduct such in-service programs whose content relates exclusively or predominantly to the subjects represented in the branch.
To provide inputs into programs of all Branches of the institute, to the extent of subjects /areas represented /handled in the branch, In service programs for elementary teachers, training programs for NFE/AE personnel, development of locally relevant curricula , teaching learning material , low cost teaching aids, testing and evaluation tools/techniques etc, field interaction activities.
Action research, especially in ways to improve learning by children of disadvantaged groups and in education of the gifted.
Maintenance of science lab, psycho lab, resource room for education of disabled children, rooms for art education, and of equipment resource room for education of disabled children, rooms for art education and of equipment and facilities for sports and physical education.
Promotion of and support to co-curricular activities in areas related to the substantive work of the branch e.g.. Debates, literature, science fairs, visual and performing arts. Sports and physical education competitions, yoga, hobbies etc.
